The bowler has to try to dismiss the batsman as soon as possible before runs are scored. In cricket a set of six following balls bowled is called an over.
As a rule an over is bowled by one bowler. In the case of the bowler getting physically injured the over could be completed by a teammate. The course of bowling is reversed at the completion of each over.
As a rule no bowler can bowl more than 20% of the allotted overs per innings. The game can be spoiled by a slow over tempo. Very often teams including the captain are punished for going at a slow over rate. They are punished by cutting the match bill or banning from games.
An over which no runs are scored is known a maiden over. When no runs are scored and one wicket is taken its known as a wicket maiden.
