Agnosticism is defined as a non committal principle of neither acknowledging nor denying the existence of God. The word agnostic was derived from the Greek word "agnostos" meaning "to not know" Agnostics prefer to be in a safer mode when being asked if they believe in God. Agnosticism may have several categories like Agnostic theism, agnostic atheism, strong and weak agnosticism and so forth. A person's agnostic point of view can be determined more specifically using these categories.

Criticisms of agnosticism are palpable due to the character of agnostics who are keeping themselves safe when it comes to their principles of faith. Agnostics are transparent about their belief without compromising the principles of the theist and the atheist. They are mere observers and non critical about the issues of endless search for solid evidence to support the claims of the theist and the atheist. Agnosticism is often mistaken to be identical to atheism. Although agnosticism does not directly deny the existence of God, its principle however is helpful for religious groups to support their claims about God's existence. Here's a brief viewpoint of religious and atheist criticisms of agnosticism.

Religious Criticism - Though far-fetched, agnosticism is profoundly distinguished because of its firm belief that the idea that a higher entity co-exists with human is unknowable. Agnosticism does not confer with scientific experimentation or religious debate to retort their claims. Religious scholars claimed that agnostics are culpable for their own salvation by questioning God's existence. Although indirectly accused of fallacies, religious scholars and philosophers implied that it is much safer to submit to the creed of salvation rather than face the doom of an infernal punishment after death. Religious scholars stipulated that agnostics are unmindful of crossing the line in questioning God's existence. Religious theists claimed that God is omnipotent and thus demands fear and respect.

Atheist Criticism - Atheists identify agnostics as mere audiences that are sitting on the fence. They claimed that an agnostic has no solid conviction to support his principle of knowing the existence or non existence of a spiritual entity.

There may be a hundred criticisms of agnosticism coming from religious scholars or philosophers whose opinions about agnostics were circulated through print media. Agnosticism however is not a religion that entices any person to shift his belief or faith. Some people considered it as the awakening of their inner senses questioning if their previous belief have of any substance.
