Cuisine of Bratislava
Bratislava is a fantastic city in west Slovakia that is currently being hailed as one of the world's up and coming culinary paradises. With dishes of all types being discovered from visitors all around the world, it's no wonder that more and more people are considering this incredible town as a holiday destination. And if you're one of the travellers who gives their food just as much consideration as a place's history, weather and location, then you can rest assured that there'll be more than enough to please your palate.
In fact, Bratislava's reputation as a city of cuisine has come so far in recent times that its entire Old Town area has been referred to as "one big restaurant", and if that's not enough to tempt you to visit then nothing is! Cosmopolitan Bratislava is sure to defy all naysayers, however and if you truly are a foodie, then surely it's your goal to sample top cuisine from all over? If that's your aim, Bratislava is a must.
One of the most interesting things about Bratislava's cuisine is its difference from much of Slovakia's other styles. Thanks to the city's status as a bit of a melting pot of Jewish, German, Hungarian and Slovak culture, the food is often a whole new experience brought on from a fusion of these cultures and culinary traditions. That's not to say you won't find typical Slovakian food around here for example, the country's unique style of sweet pastry adorned with poppy seeds or walnuts can be found here in abundance and is sure to become one of your favourite treats, especially when washed down with a glass of the most delicate white wines of the region.
There are many different restaurants to try in Bratislava, some of the most iconic being Au Caf and Leberfinger, where the atmosphere is distinctive and memorable. There are plenty of Slovak restaurants in the Old Town, though the forest-based Koliba Expo above the city is a recommended destination. You can also enjoy mesmerising views of the city in restaurants such as the UFO restaurant, which rests atop the Novy Most Bridge or the Veza which is situated in the broadcasting tower on Kamzik Hill.
After all of that exploring, you'll be grateful for a rest in your hotels in Bratislava so you're all set to delight in yet more culinary masterpieces the following day and the day after that!
