And if you've been wondering for quite some time when and where exactly these cup cakes really came from, then we need to dig deep and discover some interesting facts as well as insightful details about the history of cupcakes.
Actually, there's no really answer and that much factual evidence about the true origin of cupcakes - that is where and when they actually originated. However, there are few pieces of information that have been uncovered which shed some light on their history. For the record, it is about in the year 1790s through to the1800s that cup cakes became visible in cookbooks. Generally, they were considered as a small baked cake that looks like a small amount of serving of a bigger size cake. They were a little serving with icing or sprinkles that were placed on its top plus a thin paper cup on its bottom to hold the cup cake itself.
They were found in an American cookbook in the year 1826 which was the first type of recipe to use the term 'cupcake'. This recipe referred to and called this kind of cake a cup cake because 'cup' meant a new type of volume measuring system in which ingredients were measured by cup and not by weight. This was also because the cakes were cooked originally in cups as well as the ingredients that were used in making the first cup cakes were measured out by the cup. These were the two origins of where the name cup cake first began.
It is only in 19th century that the cupcake evolved in America. Smaller cakes created a tremendous saving of time in the kitchen and that is the reason why they became such a revolutionary type of dessert.
As it evolved, there were lots of variants that also developed and came out to the marketplace and became available. More flavors, more types, different sizes, and uniquely given names to each cupcake made. This often depended mostly on the areas or countries around the world where the cupcakes originated from. Initially, they were known as number cakes in order to easily remember the measurements of each ingredient.
Finally, the cupcake that we actually have now has become a pop culture trend.
So, as we discover how the cupcake's evolution and how it made its way up to this day, there's just one thing that we can really be sure of. That's its staying power in the culinary world because it creates a delicate and tasty treat and its flavor depends mainly on the choice of the baker.
