Ringing ears is caused by the ultra fine inner ear hairs becoming damaged or clogged with too much ear wax. Usually these hairs should stand up straight, vibrating from external noises. These vibrations are turned into electrical impulses that the brain translates into the sounds you experience.

When the hairs become damaged, they bend or lay down, this causes a permanent vibrating on the inner ear walls, your brain interprets this as continuous noise.

Too much external noise and noise pollution is almost always the culprit in suffering from ringing ears. In looking for a cure for ringing ears, precaution is as much a part of the program as the cure. The two go hand in hand and by becoming more vigilant against external noises, you not only limit damage to your inner ear but you can also help cure or reverse it too.

Watch out for noisy concerts, if you do go to one, use ear defenders or gently put some rolled up tissue in your ears at the very least but be careful not to put the tissue in too far. This will help filter out the damaging frequencies.

Be careful not to turn up personal stereos to loud, although the speakers are only tiny, they pack a hell of a punch and the damage could be done without you even realizing.

Even a noisy work place, such as the factory floor can damage your hearing. Wear adequate ear defenders where applicable.
