Custom Motorcycle Exhaust And The Debate

Custom motorcycle exhaust has been the topic of some heated debates over the past

couple years and most of the debates really boil down to two main arguments. Those two main arguments are for and against the exhaust all together. This article will explain what those two arguments are and how they both can be valid.

The first main argument that happens to be for motorcycle custom exhaust is the argument that custom exhaust makes a lot of noise and therefore makes other drivers more aware that the motorcycle is present. This, in my opinion, is a good thing because by increasing the awareness of the drivers around you, you are essentially protecting yourself from harm caused by other vehicles. Motorcycles can be hard to see because of their small size in relation to the other vehicles on the road. Because of this, motorcycles are harder to spot in blind spots and other areas where vehicles may be less visible. By creating more distraction with the loud pipes, you are essentially making yourself more visible and can reduce the likelihood of an accident occurring because another driver didnt see you. This is perhaps the strongest argument for custom motorcycle exhaust.

The other main argument is one that goes against loud exhaust. This argument states that the loud pipes are a disturbance to the public and a potential distraction to other drivers on the road. I will admit that custom exhaust on a cruiser being fired up at 7 a.m. in the morning can be pretty loud and obnoxious, and that some people do have the right to peace and quiet, especially in quiet neighborhoods. The other part to this argument is that the loud pipes, although make drivers aware of the motorcycle, may distract them from their own driving and other vehicles on the road. This could also lead to accidents.

Some feel that loud custom exhaust is too distracting and disruptive, while others feel that it helps save motorcyclists lives by making their presence known on major highways, busy streets, and freeways where traffic is heavy and congested. The debate is weighted so evenly and will likely be a debate for many years to come with no right or wrong answer. Some cities and states have taken action against motorcyclists with loud exhaust by issuing citations and forcing the removal of such items. Others have not taken any action and it is unclear of whether or not that will happen.

Whether youre for or against custom exhaust on the motorcycle is entirely your own opinion. If you arent too familiar with the topic, then hopefully this article has given you a little more insight on the subject.
