Consider this- a decade back, PCs were the backbone of all office operations carried out by the average worker. The first wave of change came with the BlackBerry phones, which were company owned and reserved for use by the company elite. Customized applications have always been preferred by enterprise users due to the superior support, attractive UI designs and the minimal bugs in such systems. Additionally, many companies have even preferred to outsource software development to leading offshore development companies due to their superior experience in the field. The new age of mobile-only apps are expected to take this trend even further as the new customized solutions feature UI and graphics, which are capable of utilizing the built-in capabilities of the devices themselves. We already have sensor-based games for smart phones, which the user can play by tilting the phone one way or another. As has been often said, an improved user-experience (UX) is what Custom Software Development proposes to provide and this new mobile apps development trend proposes to deliver just that by leveraging the benefits and limitations of a smart phone.

Like any new idea, there are critics of the idea who feel that this is just a passing fad and when enterprises will soon figure out that the BYOD concept and introduction of smart phones in the work place is a bad idea. Subsequently, organizations will no longer provide support to this new form of application customization. At this juncture, its the old question of to be or not to be, but if mobile computing is the future of enterprise productivity, we are in for quite a ride in the field of customized mobile-only solutions.
