In a competitive market one of the vital roles a sales manager has is the coaching and guidance of their sales staff

. This process can be carried out through a structured training program so all members of the sales team are equipped with the knowledge and tools to provide exceptional customer service.

By providing a motivated and focussed work environment a sales manager has the ability to build a high-performance team that wins over its customers so they return for repeat business.

If a salesperson is new to the job and has little experience with face to face interaction with customers then it is important to have that person mentored or coached by an experienced staff member.

By schooling new employees from day one on what the business expectations are and how they will be supported to positively contribute to the wider team will engender confidence they are part of a professional organization that values its employees.

1. Initiate a professional training program so any incoming sales people are trained to a high quality standard and have the confidence, skills and knowledge to exceed sales targets, attract new business and help to create customer loyalty

2. Make an effort to keep sales staff happy and positive team in a culture that rewards hard work and success through reward incentives for individual top performers and when team targets have been exceeded.

3. Offer annual bonuses when turnover and profit figures exceed projected targets.

5. Ensure the necessary tools, resources and technology such as cell phones, net books are provided

6. Offer a reasonable expense account to meet any on-the-road costs and out of town expenses.
