The primary method that a courier company is going to use to update their customers with the status of their shipments is going to be through an online order tracking system of some kind. This will be a system that you can access through the website of your courier company. When you place your order, you will be given a reference number. By entering that reference number on the website, you should be able to receive all the updates that the courier company has entered into their system.

The courier company will load several different types of information into this system for you to view. First of all, most courier companies now utilize a GPS tracking system. This means that when you log in to view the status of your shipment, you should be able to see exactly where it is, in real time. They will also likely update the status with any other relevant updates, such as if a delay has occurred, or if the package is currently waiting at a depot or terminal of some kind for transfer.

Courier companies may also contact you directly if they feel there is reason in order to update you on the status of a shipment. They can then instantly send you an email, along with the confirmed signature, that confirms that your package has been successfully delivered. Technology has allowed courier companies to be very thorough in updating customers with the status of their shipments.
