What you see - It is easy to miss the place if you are not sure of the address. Antidote is situated in a little lane, beside the Antidote, Anarkali, HyderabadBrand Factory complex in Himayatnagar, opposite Minerva Cafe. The name sounded chic and we expected some real good stuff as we stepped into this studio in Hyderabad. We found the interiors very modest. It includes a main room where the designer meets his clients and a few adjacent rooms, where he has people working on tailoring, pattern making and embroidery.

Started in March 2010 by a NIFT graduate, Jayachandra, Antidote is a tale of freedom sought in the world of design making. After working with a famous textile brand for a while, Chandu (as Jayachandra is known around here) decided to get out of the shackles of restricted design methodology and plunged into creating something bespoke and modestly priced. So at Antidote, he customizes designs as per the need and taste of individual clients and also brings out pocket friendly options.

What you get - Antidote is known for traditional Indian wear, though Chandu promises suggestions and help even for special western wear requests. Everything here is on request and usually Antidote Hyderabad, blousenothing is sold pre-designed. The designer helps out every customer with expert counsel and brings out the best suited apparel. The blouses start from Rs. 400 and so do the salwar kameez.

A hand embroidered blouse can cost anywhere around Rs. 1,600. We saw on display a saree worth Rs. 15,000 being made on request; every pattern on it being done with the hands. The artwork was fantastic and the design was innovative. Chandu uses a lot of zardozi rather than kundan work and his designs show that he is biased to the colors of red and black. A lot of Chandu's designs also seem to be inspired by artists like Raja Ravi Varma. He also shared details on his recent creations which were heavily inspired by cultural dance forms in India. These involved hand embroidery of the silhouettes of dance mudras onto one single piece.

Our verdict - Antidote is the perfect stop for anyone who is bored of scouting boutiques which either have stuff which is too expensive or designs that don't appeal. Antidote makes it a point to try and design the apparel exactly to suit the need of the customer and at pocket friendly rates. In terms of parking space availability, there is no dedicated facility here, though you can park in one of the surrounding complexes and walk to the place.
