In the world of dog training, there are practically dozens of Dachshund puppy training methods. You would have to through a lot of trial and error in order to find the one that is right for both you and your pet.

Now if you ask me, what is the most effective way to train a dachshund puppy?

I'd pick clicker training any day over other Dachshund puppy training methods! The clicker is great because it can effectively mark the exact moment when your pup performs a correct behavior.

Honestly, I've tried a number of methods on my Dachshund pup, Yoshi but she was stubborn as a mule (this breed is naturally stubborn anyway).

You see, Yoshi loves chasing after small creatures and don't get me started on her barking behavior I can't stand her excessive barking habit. She has a painfully loud bark!

You know, those annoyingly cheesy 80's synthesizer sounds? Well, her barks make those synthesizer sounds like melody composed by God and his angels or somethingReal headache inducing barks!

So, long story short I found a downloadable clicker training action guide online. The techniques outlined in the guide were so easy to follow and effective as well. Very easy to shape new positive behaviors in Yoshi using those techniques and results happened fairly quickly.

Alright listen, if you choose to conduct Dachshund puppy training sessions with a clicker (highly recommended), then you need to focus on the following:

Clicker target exercise:

This exercise is useful for shaping a new behavior. It works like this

You put a tasty treat on a target object. Next, get your dog to approach the object and sniff it. As soon as he takes the treat, you click and praise him. You need to do this at least 5 times, then try this exercise again but this time, don't place any treat on the target.

Click accuracy:

Make sure you click the moment your puppy performs the right action. Precision clicking is very important and I used to neglect this and as a result, Yoshi tended to react to my hand movement instead of the clicker!
