Dajue Temple- one step closer to enlightenment

One of the most frequently visited tourist destinations in China, Beijing is quite a remarkable city boasting dozens of fascinating attractions. Closely related to the Taoist and Buddhist religious beliefs of the locals, most of the temples and shrines that can be found in Beijing more often than not boast of a glorious past in relation to their origin. Most of these temples are said to have been built decades or even centuries ago by great Chinese emperors who ruled these lands with impressive authority and ambitious aspirations. The Azure Clouds Temple, Bailin Temple, Wuta Temple, Zhihua Temple, the White Cloud Temple, Lama Temple, the Great Bell Temple, Fayuan Temple and the Dajue Temple are some of the most popular religious sites of the city.

Completed during the reign of the Ming Dynasty, the Dajue Temple is located in the heart of Western Beijing and is frequented by many local and foreign visitors on a regular basis. With an illustrious history that dates back more than 9 centuries, the Dajue Temple is also known as the Temple of Enlightenment. The peaceful environment that surrounds the temple grounds is relaxing and alluring at the same time. Most pilgrims and visitors who come to the temple spend hours exploring the halls belonging to the temple and absorbing the breathtaking sights around the temple grounds and the magnificent Yangtai Hill.

The three most significant parts of the temple are the Mahavira Hall, the Amitabha Hall and the Sarira Pagoda. The Mahavira Hall features three intricately sculpted statues which are thought to have been in existence since the Ming Dynasty. At the Amitabha Hall visitors will also be able to see three bodhisattva statues behind which a flying statue can be seen. This statue is very rare and is thought to have been produced in the Qing era. The Sarira Pagoda is where you will see the sacred relics of the Jialing monk who was the head of the monastery for many years.
