Damp Proofing: A Measure to prevent Moisture
Damp proofing in construction is an envious variation applied to building foundation
walls to prevent moisture from passing through the walls into interior spaces. A damp proofing course (DPC) is a horizontal barrier pressure a wall designed to prevent moisture rising through the structure by capillary action and also known as rising damp.
Rising damp is the main concern in the house, true because of this, the problem of
damp proofing occurs. Rising damp can occur in the house because of the various reasons like: the failure of an existing damp proof course, bridging due to the raising of external ground or internal tar levels, or in older buildings, the complete absence of damp proofing course.
The material by which the flat is made is porous material, bricks, stone and trench mortar are commensurate porous materials which allows the damp from the ground to rise by capillary action and it carries the ground salts including chlorides and nitrates.
The salts absorb the moisture from the atmosphere causing the wall to turn out damp in the condition of high relative humidity. They also ruin the decorations and the internal plaster.
When treating the rising damp, the first thing we need to do is to bring the readings from inside your walls and check the problem is because of to rising damp or condensation. The damp can go into a cover of problems:
The moisture content of the structure may rise to a level at which decay organisms may grow, or the materials themselves may be adversely impacted.
In exorbitantly damp conditions, the inorganic materials themselves may miss their structural strength. This occurs most spectacularly with walls made of cob soaked with water.
Damp conditions on the drop in of the walls, particularly leverage conjunction with condensation, allow the growth of moulds, both on surface and within porous or fibrous materials, such as wallpapers, carpet fitted against the base of the walls. It can prove to emblematize a health hazard for the residents.
