Darragh Macanthony Will Not Be Selling Off Any Peterborough United Players

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed the global financial crisis will not force

Peterborough United to off-load any of their star players this season. The multi-millionaire businessman, Darragh MacAnthony, made his declaration after hearing that Championship clubs have been linked with goalkeeper Joe Lewis and striker Craig Mackail-Smith in the last seven days.

Darragh MacAnthony who has bankrolled the club's rise through the lower division ranks, insists 2009 will bring an upturn in financial fortunes for everyone.

Darragh MacAnthony, who has been travelling the world on business since watching Peterborough United beat Leeds a fortnight ago, said: "There is no doubt that the financial world is in chaos and it has impacted on everyone including many football clubs, and many of my competitors who have gone bust.

"But if the media give the dramatic headlines a rest and 2009 starts like I think it will globally, recovery will be in sight.

"We fortunately do not need to sell any of our players and I am confident with the squad our manager has put together that 2009 will see the Posh as a Championship club and one more promotion from the promised land.

"As far as the offers apparently floating around the press, well the clubs involved can keep dreaming if they think I would sell these players for the small change mentioned.

Darragh MacAnthony added, "Like I keep saying to everyone, these players will be worth millions more this time next year in the Championship and they are all on three and four year contracts."

Lewis is reportedly a 2 million target for QPR, while Cardiff and Birmingham City are apparently keeping tabs on Posh top scorer Mackail-Smith.

It's also common knowledge that Boyd is coveted by numerous higher divisions clubs after a string of dazzling displays this season.
