Dating After 50 - 3 Reasons You Should Still Date
Why you should still date after 50? What kind of a question is that
? You should date after 50 because it's FUN. If you're worried that you may not be as attractive now as you were when you were 20, stop right now. You are surely attractive in another way. Your mature, secure financially and emotionally, and don't have to worry about having or taking care of kids. If you're sitting around worrying about what you look like, so is your potential date. And then there's the question, why shouldn't people over 50 date. 50 is the new 30, right? Do you know a lot of single 30 year olds that don't want to date? But here are a three more reasons to date after 50, if those aren't good enough:
Because you're alone now. Maybe you like it? Maybe you like parties by yourself.being the only single at a dinner party of 7.going for Sunday afternoon drives alone..but most people don't. A great majority of boomers are divorced or widowed and would welcome a companion. Companionship is a great reason for dating. People are social animals. And there are lots and lots of boomers out there looking for a date. The fastest growing demographic in this country is people 50-54. The second fastest growing group is people ages 45-49. Companionship is not the only reason. Intimacy is not to be overlooked after 50. Remember, you're not dead yet. Many senior citizens are sexually active into their 80's! You're not getting any younger. Why sit around alone on Saturday night when there's somebody out there for you?
Because you can: over 20 million people visit dating sites every month, not every year, EVERY MONTH. Surely, there will be ONE person out of that 20 million who might be for you. And there are 97 million single Americans who are aged 45 or older. Almost 40% of these people are in the same boat as you they're single. Of course, you can always hit up your local bar, decide to take ballroom dancing in the hopes of meeting somebody, or start checking out the singles over 50 at your place of worship. Maybe you're sister's best friend is suddenly single too.
Being in a relationship, or being married, is healthy and makes good economic sense. Married people are less lonely, anxious and depressed than singles. A recent survey reported that over a third of the men and women in their 50s had not been hugged or kissed in the past six months. That can't be good for you! Swedish studies show that married people or people who live together in relationships are less likely to develop cancer, or have heart attacks. Being in a relationship is associated with a lower risk of developing dementia. It's not true that two can live as cheaply as one. But two CAN live as cheaply as one and a half! Married women make, on the average $6,000 a year more than single women. That's certainly nice for the guy she's married to as well as for her. And people in relationships have sex two to three times a week. Perhaps that speaks for itself in the category of fun activities.
So really, what are you waiting for? You can get warm and comfy in your sweats and hang out with a beer and the computer and find a date online if you don't feel like getting out and about yet. And clearly, the people you find on online dating sites, are looking for love as well.
