When you go out on a date just follow these simple tips and avoid looking silly. Always dress well, take the effort of going the extra mile and dress up. If you cannot be bothered by spending the time to look good this sends a bad signal to your date. Either you do not care what you look like, which is never a good opener, or you do not think your date is worth the effort, which is even worse.

Dressing smart would also help your own self confidence, which is always appreciated. It also shows through when you are more confident and at ease with yourself. Remember, always try to act like you normally do, you do not want to give the impression of being someone else on a first date. Some of the basic chivalrous routines should be adhered to, like opening the doors for your date and getting her coat. Obviously this does not apply to ladies, but you should also give your male date the chance to perform these niceties. It does not matter if you yourself believe in these gestures or not, this would give an indication as to his general nature. And that is all what a first date is about, trying to project a positive image of personality.

Of course, if you know that the woman you are going out with is a staunch feminist, never attempt the above. Let her be independent, and do not be over solicitous. You should also keep in mind if she would like to share the bill or not.
