Dating Gone Wrong

Have you ever been in a dating circumstance that was not such a mature dating situation

? Were you afraid for your physical safety? What about your emotional safety and well-being? How did you handle the situation? If you are in a mature dating relationship, you won't be experiencing any of the above-mentioned circumstances however, if you aren't in a mature dating relationship, its highly likely that you've experienced some of these situations.

For example, what do you do if you have gone on a few dates with someone and you realize that you are not in the mature dating relationship that you'd like to be in and you want to end this new dating relationship? You have carefully thought this through and you are ready to break the tie and move on to your next dating prospect. However, what if this person does not want to take no for an answer and let you go? You have a possessive person on your hands and you need to take quick action before the situation gets out of control and this person becomes a stalker or worse. How do you proceed?

The best thing to do is to tell this person straight out that you don't feel that you can be in a mature dating relationship with him or her and you need to stop dating. If this person cannot take no for an answer, you need to explain that you don't feel as if he or she is a perfect match for you and you both would be better off finding true love and commitment with other partners more respectively compatible. If you spoke to this person over the phone to explain how you feel because you were afraid how he or she would handle the news, should you meet with this person face to face, if he or she expresses a strong desire to do so?

If you feel that this person will never stop calling you or bothering you if you don't meet with him or her, then go ahead with the meeting, but make sure you take certain precautions. You should definitely let someone who is a trusted friend or family member know that you are meeting with this person and where you are meeting and when you should be back home. It's possible that nothing bad could happen, but if you are unsure of someone's potential emotional outbreak, then you need to be prepared and take precautionary measures to ensure your safety.

When you are at the meeting, allow this person to express his or her feelings and explain why he or she thinks you should continue in the relationship. If this person feels that he or she has not had the chance to explain his or her reasoning, then further issues could ensue. When this person has finished expressing his or her feelings, explain yourself once again in a grown-up fashion, making sure that you try not to hurt this person's feeling. Explain again that you are looking to be involved in a mature dating relationship with someone and you don't feel as if you two are a compatible match. Make sure that you explain that you think he or she is a good person, but you just don't mesh well together and you are looking for someone who is your perfect match and share that this person should think about that as well.

If things get bad from there, you may need to excuse yourself and leave or if they get worse yet, it's possible you may need to call the manager or security at the restaurant you're at and get help. Hopefully, this person has enough self-respect and common sense to leave you alone and not bother you again. However, if this person starts to stalk you and won't take no for an answer, it may be time to consider getting a restraining order.
