Dating websites are not just for the young, study finds

It can be hard for individuals to meet potential partners these days and going online

to particular sites, including those that specialise in dating for disabled people, is becoming an increasingly popular activity.

This approach enables people to come into contact with others who are looking for love.

Disabled dating services can be particularly useful for those who make use of them, as it can be even harder than usual for such individuals to get to know likeminded men and women through other means.

And new research has shown that it is not only youngsters who go online in the pursuit of romance.

According to a study conducted by the Canadian Liver Foundation, 41 per cent of 'baby boomers' aged between 46 and 64 have used dating websites for this reason.

Among this group, there may be some who focussed on dating for disabled people.

Those behind the findings also found that respondents to their questions were not always looking for long-term partnerships.

More than a quarter (28 per cent) revealed they were not necessarily in it for the long haul when they used dating websites.

Commenting on the findings, chairman of foundation Dr Morris Sherman stated: "Boomers definitely have a new-found zest for life - but it's important they use it safely and wisely.

"Many have been out of the dating scene for a while and need to realise there are new risks of sexually transmitted infections and proper precautions should be taken."

The expert went on to point out that people need to learn from their younger years and understand that they are not immortal.

Along with other types of online meeting provisions, disabled dating services are rising in prominence in the UK and elsewhere and the trend shows no sign of reversing. Indeed, it looks as though this phenomenon is here to stay.
