A cluttered home speaks volumes about the people who live there
. What impression would you like your guests to carry away after visiting you in your home. Is that clutter that you've allowed to accumulate worth the cost of a bad impression?
If your home is neat and tidy your visitors will come away with a good impression of you. But even if you live in a mansion but it looks like it was hit by a hurricane your guests will not think highly of you. This is a choice you must make. Here are some ideas.
If your home is cluttered you have to decide where to begin. Which rooms are the messiest and which are most visible to visitors. Make a plan to attack those rooms first. Setup a time table because it will spur you along in case you lose heart along the way. You can adjust this time table later but it is important to establish. Focus on your tasks in the order you have planned and mark them off as you complete each one. This will help you stay motivated.
The Cleaning Phase
Begin to cut through the clutter by grouping things. You can use piles if you need to but it is important to get clothes with clothes, mail with mail, etc. For things you no longer want, like clothes that don't fit or which are out of style get rid of them as quickly as you can. If you want to have a yard sale, ok, but realize that means keeping the stuff around for another few weeks as you organize it. A consignment store or Goodwill is your best choice for getting rid of serviceable items.
Don't become discouraged if your plan begins to take longer than you planned. If the job seems bigger than you thought then take a break from it. But be sure to get back to it: it is worth it to have a clean organized home to live in. A home that is free of clutter.
De-cluttering your home can give you a sense of control over your life that you may not have known before. You can get this done and it will be worth it.
