Dealing In Dubai
The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is hosting its first Precious Metals Conference
(DPMC) in April, in coordination with Foretell Business Solutions Private Limited, a leading Indian investment research firm. The two-day meeting will be held at the Middle Easts tallest commercial building, the Almas Tower. Participants include global players in the precious metals industry, who will discuss the latest trade, finance, and technology trends in the market. Of particular importance will be addressing challenges facing the precious metal refinery industry and possible solutions for long-term growth. Offering attendees firsthand insights garnered from years of industry experience, speakers will discuss bullion operations, trading, and procurement, amongst other topics.
The precious metals industry has increased its global influence amidst international economic turbulence. Despite a decline in demand from American and European consumers, overall demand has increased. This is due to growing consumer appetites in China and India, and from state banks holding more gold bars in reserve currency. Prices have risen not just for gold, but also for silver, copper, palladium, and platinum. Gold will be a ubiquitous topic for investors, but the conference will also highlight investment initiatives for the silver and platinum groups of metals. An important strategy will be the development of these natural resources, and the infrastructure to extract them, within Africa.
Seeking to capitalize on market trends, the conference in Dubai is a further indicator of the current economic climate, and an attempt to unify stakeholders behind a common cause. The DMCC has supported international commodities trade through its physical infrastructure, business-friendly regulatory environment, and a focus on innovation and technological development. According to the Executive Chairman of the DMCC, Ahmed bin Sulayem:
DMCCs inaugural Dubai Precious Metals Conference is another example of our ongoing commitment to enhancing commodities trade through Dubai and the UAE Through initiatives like this new addition we are looking to promote the growth of the industry and ensure the continued positioning of Dubai as one of the worlds leading precious metals centres.
The Middle East plays an important role in development globally, because while other economies are stagnant, its economyequivalent to US$ 1 trillionis growing more than 5% annually. The DMCC seeks to play a big role in maintaining and increasing that rate of growth, through building partnerships with key industry players, and wants to make Dubai the global hub for the precious metals trade. In furtherance of those goals, the DMCC has rolled out initiatives like the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX), the Dubai Good Delivery (DGD) standard, the Shariah-law-compliant Dubai Gold Securities Exchange Traded Fund, and the countrys first gold bullion currency. The conference boasts nearly 200 business registrants across the precious metals industry from mining outfits to refineries to bankers and shipping companies.
