Dealing With Anorexia

It is not weak to have an emotional issue

It is not weak to have an emotional issue. This is our brain protecting us so we can cope with hurt, loss, depression, despair, abuse etc. The first step is to acknowledge that there is an issue and then ask for help. If you are suffering from Bulimia you need specialist help with learning to eat again. Bulimia occurs when we try to lose weight or maintain a certain size by dieting or depriving ourselves. As said previously, anorexia nervosa is an extremely serious disorder that can lead to a variety of unhealthy and deadly symptoms. Anorexia, associated with extreme malnutrition, can often cause severe complications in every major organ within the body. Becoming seriously underweight can lead to both depression and social withdrawal.

Sometimes, no matter how much you try, people just won't change. This can be very depressing. Don't beat yourself up too much about it. These people still need your love and acceptance. They might have an eating disorder, but they are still important to you. Remind them of this fact. Let them know you care about them. Instead of binging when you get the urge to do so, replace it with something else - for example calling a friend, doing a vigorous work out, or engrossing yourself in an activity which consumes you. Starvation, deprivation and chew spitting are used to garner attention and affection to compensate for lack of love and bonding with ones family. Typically speaking, a dysfunctional mother daughter relationship is usually at hand.

It is like anything new you learn. You don't take your first swimming lesson and then go jump in the deep end. You keep taking lessons until you have the confidence and ability to swim. You are more likely to succeed when you have more information and guidance. This knowledge is a great first step in helping your daughter get well. Now build on it and learn more. During typical neurofeedback training, sensors are placed on the scalp and/or ear lobes. A neurofeedback unit provides instantaneous audio and visual display of brain wave activity.

Complex trauma is the type of trauma that is associated with childhood trauma that is usually ongoing. There is another type of trauma that can be traced to a single event, such as a war experience, automobile accident, etc. When a client has PTSD with an eating disorder, the trauma is generally complex trauma. Specific protocols are available for complex trauma. If you have read this far and are not deeply worried, you should be concerned ~ more than concerned. These companies and the people who pay thousands of dollars for these procedures are supporting a myth that is robbing thousands of people of self-acceptance and joy in life: the myth of bodily perfection.

Remember: An eating disorder is not about your number on the scale, or the calories you put in your mouth, or the miles that you run. An eating disorder is about how you are using food to cope with serious issues in your life, like abuse from a partner, stress at home or work, abuse and emotional problems from your childhood, or even self-esteem issues.
