Dealing With Windows Update Error Code 0x8DDD0018
You may receive following error codes while downloading updates either form Microsoft Update Web site or Microsoft Windows Update.
* Error code 0x8DDD0018
* Error code 0x80246008
Windows Update error code 0x8DDD0018 occurs when BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is disabled OR it fails to connect to the update website.
Below are given few methods to help you understand how to quickly resolve the issue.
Make sure that BITS is properly configured on the PC. To do this, perform following steps.
a) Start>>Run>>Type services.msc>>Enter.
b) Keep scrolling down until you reach Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
c) On the General tab you would see Startup Type-change it to Manual and then Apply.
d) On the Long On tab, check that BITS is enabled for hardware profiles listed, if not then select the particular profile and Enable it and Click on Apply.
e) Go back to General Tab and Click on Start Button
It should start-now go to the Microsoft Update Website and update your system. If your system is updated successfully then change the startup type of BITS to Automatic.
If you are receiving following error message:
Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer service on the local computer. For more information review the system event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -2147024894. (0x80070002)
Please apply following steps!
a) Start>>Run>>Type regedit and press Enter
b) In the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetContr olBackupRestoreFilesNotToBackup
Check here if "FilesNotToBackup" registry key exists, if it there then close Editor and if it does not exist then perform following steps to create this key.
a) Right-Click on BackupRestore.
b) Select New and then select Key.
c) Enter here key name "FilesNotToBackup" without quotes and press Enter.
Now go to Services and start Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
If you are receiving following error message:
Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different than the account specified for other services running in the same process. (0x80004015)
Please apply following steps!
a) Start>>Run>>Type services.msc and press Enter.
b) Scroll down and double click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
c) Find Local System account on the Log on tab (Select it) and click on OK.
d) Start Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
