Declawing your cat is an important decision and should not be taken lightly. Please read the following article before you decide.

The United States is the only country that declaws on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, most European countries consider this mutilation and inhumane.

First, declawing is not cutting the toenails as short as possible. It is actually trimming the bone that contains the claw. The claw is actually an extension of the bone which means that declawing is more like amputation. When you visualize the procedure, you realize that this is not a humane act. It is surgery and requires a healing period which a cat does not understand. The cat will attempt to scratch, walk, and jump causing itself extreme pain.

We all know that a cat's senses are sharper than ours but by nature, they will not show pain because that is a sign of weakness and instinctively do not want do not want to show a weakened position.

The claws are an important part of the design to give the cat the grace, beauty, and agility that we appreciate watching. Not only does this alter the design of their feet, it also leaves them defenseless if they should ever get outside by mistake.

Now you know that declawing is not only inhumane but dangerous, all is not lost. There are a few solutions that are not as drastic but will be effective with time and patience.
