There is no need to spend extra money on fancy office furniture, but do buy what you need, or else scavenge it from other parts of your house. Of course you'll need a place to store paperwork, a desk and depending on what you do for a living, possibly another work table. Keep it simple and clean, and you'll be in a better place to do your work mentally.

You can control your environment easily, and keep as comfortable as possible so that you can be as productive as possible. Wall colour can also have a great impact on the look and feel of your home office. If you see outsiders, such as patients or other clients in the course of your work day, you'll want your space to look cheerful and well organized, and a bit of colour never hurt to make a statement about your image either. Choose a wall colour that reflects your personality and isn't too garish or unprofessional. Blues and greens and yellows tend to offer a peaceful backdrop that's not offensive to the eye and are easy to maintain.

Things like a yoga mat, a small TV or a play space for your kids can be great reminders that your home office is part of your home-court advantage. If offices permitted workers to be comfortable and integrate their personal lives into their working lives, it's likely we'd have a saner, happier work force.
