Deep Plug Lawn Aeration Offers Plenty Of Benefits

Lawn aeration is not only something that lawns can benefit from

, but also something that can actually save the most abused lawn. When the lawn is aerated, plugs are pulled out of the lawn to make it more porous. When everything is done right, the lawn will be able to hold its water better and become much stronger over time.

Deep plug aeration is very popular because it does as its name suggests, it goes deeper. For this process, the plugs that are taken out of the lawn will be at least three inches. If the lawn is suffering from lack of care or is just not growing properly, the plugs may end up being a bit smaller because the soil will be much harder.

The plugs also play a part in this whole process. Often times, the soil that is deeper will be packed with nutrients. By spreading the plugs over the lawn, these nutrients can be absorbed back into the lawn and start the entire cycle all over again.

Aeration is also used to break up one of the lawns biggest enemies, thatch. This can be extremely detrimental to a lawn because it promotes the growth of damaging fungus and is also a home to many insects that thrive on grass. An additional danger of thatch is that water and other nutrients cannot penetrate it and the lawn will suffer because of this.

Compact soil is another danger for any lawn. When the soil is hard-packed, it becomes more difficult for the nutrients to get deep into the soil and is harder for the grass to anchor its roots. The aeration process can break up the hard soil and once again allow the lawn to thrive.

These are but a few of the benefits of lawn aeration, but rest assured that they are all important. When this is done during the right seasons, the lawn is able to enjoy better water retention and can continue to allow its roots to grow stronger. Over time, even the most stubborn lawn will soften and become plush and green when in season.
