Deer Fencing For Any Yard
When the garden is in full bloom, hungry deer stop by to browse and have a snack
. There are many ways to repel and deter deer once they have entered the area. However, why not just keep them from entering in the first place? Using deer fencing will keep deer out of the yard and eliminate the need for other repellent methods.
Many people attempt to deter deer by surrounding plants and vegetables with netting. This is a cost-effective solution, but it can cause some unanticipated problems. Gardeners have to navigate around the net in order to weed and water the garden. Birds and other small animals can easily become caught in the material and deer can pull the netting off with their antlers.
There is a better solution and it comes in the form of a tall fence. The fence should be at least eight feet high and can be made from various materials. Wood and metal fences are the traditional types, but these can be rather costly.
Polypropylene mesh is a more inexpensive material to use to surround the area. It is very durable, can last up to ten years, and will not fade. The most common color of this mesh is black, which will blend in when viewed from a distance.
Mesh is easy to install and the entire process will require only a few hours and a couple of materials. During installation, make sure that the entire area to be protected is enclosed. This will prevent deer from ruining the fence if they get in through and opening and cannot figure out how to get out. The fence posts used should be about 11 or 12 feet high and constructed from sturdy wood or metal. Place these throughout the area wherever trees are spaced greater than 35 feet from each other.
Secure the mesh to the fence post or a tree, making sure that it reaches the ground so deer cannot crawl under the fence. Using a ground staple is a good idea because it will secure the mesh in the ground. These staples may be bought from a store or can be made at home using coat hangers.
Mesh deer fencing is a great choice for those on a budget who need to keep deer out of the garden. It is much cheaper than other materials and can be installed in a few hours. Deer will avoid the fence and the gardener can enjoy the lovely flowers and yummy vegetables.
