, but with the widening of classes and the huge rise in the numbers of the middle class it may not be inappropriate to say that Diabetes is spreading like wildfire in the middle and upper middle class as well. But disease knows no barriers it may affect the poor as well. This tells us about the magnitude of this problem. Some studies have put prevalence of Diabetes in Urban centres anywhere from 8-12%. This means that in every 2 families there would atleast be one known Diabetic. We also know from studies in other countries that 50% of the Diabetics are still undiagnosed, that means probably if you are living in a block of 50 flats there are atleast 50 Diabetics in that building.
