Once the ticket is issued and the Judge has made the sentence you have certain strategies to answer the
problem: to bury one's head in sand it and go on driving, to quit driving, to pay fines and accept the driving points at your
DMV record, to hire a lawyer and continue fighting in the Courts or to take a defensive driving course.
Most reasonable people desire the latter, of course if the traffic offence was not linked with DUI, lack
of driver's license, reckless driving or leaving the scene of collision. These are the cases when the Judge
won't send you to a traffic school for sure.
Apart from there are some other cases which are called serious offenses and may vary from state to state (exceeding speed, recidivism, etc). But once you are ordered to attend the defensive driving course you have a problem of choice.
If you open Internet or Yellow Pages you will find thousands of ads of various traffic schools: day and evening classroom courses,
online courses, experiment traffic courses based on "the latest psychological researches", comedy traffic courses led by stand-up comics, and so on. Which one to choose? No doubts that a normal modern man who's got used to save time and money will choose the online
defensive driving course.
There are several reasons for such choice and the main are the follows:
online defensive driving courses have the same contents as classroom courses but they may be visited and completed over the Internet that is rather comfortable for people who prefer their own time schedule or live far from populated areas;the courses may be taken at any place disregarding the area of the traffic offence and ticket issuing, you may pass the exam staying in another state, country or onboard the plane;the courses may be stopped and continued at any useful time, there are no punishments for being late or not attentive enough in the class (being late 5 minutes to the classroom course is usually considered as the absence without good reason);the courses are about 4-8 hours in length and contain the standard set for the classes - quizzes, tests, security questions, page timers, frequently asked questions, videos, final exams;after finishing the school there is no need to deliver confirmation documents to the Court personally or by mail. The results will be sent directly to the Court immediately.
That's a pity, but some problems connecting with online defensive driving courses remain. While online
traffic schools become increasingly available throughout the country, there is much disagreement about
the rules governing this online service. Requirements for online court approved traffic schools and
their curricula vary seriously in different states. And what is the most unpleasant in some states online
traffic schools are still prohibited.
Thus considering whether to take online defensive driving courses you
should check at the Court where you were judged or at local DMV representative if such opportunity
exists. And do not rely on the word "certified" in the school's name because sometimes it does not
mean that the exact school either classroom or online is included into the list of approved schools of the
exact Court. You may ask your traffic court or your state's drivers' license agency for such list or find it on the internet.
