It is not easy for me to decide on where to start writing on this topic for the blog. Through the years, I was able to observe and increase my knowledge about RFID. From its original specialized role for security and industrial tracking and tracing until it eventually became widely used by business establishments. There are many ways for me to write about the product, however,
I'm going to start at the fundamentals where I was able to experience particularly on the reason why there is such a thing as an industrial RFID. It will actually describe the two main product categories to allow users to differentiate what are RFID used in business establishments and RFID that are used in the industrial setting or the security RFID. RFID that is used by business establishments like Wal-Mart are commonly linked to products that are inexpensive disposable tags that would cost less than a dollar but are multiplied into a larger scale into a couple of millions of dollars while the tougher RFIDs are the ones used for industrial settings, which can be used again and utilized for manufacturing plants or equipment. For instance Balluf has been producing RFID for industrial use, particularly in the machine tool industry for more than two decades.
You may easily see that from the very beginning this is simply a promotion tool that is supposed to help distinguish the two types of RFIDs. This will facilitate the understanding of the client on the difference between the two products even if they are easily distinguishable due to their name. However, due to the fact that the two types of RFID seem to overlap each other in terms of usage and you would find it hard to tell which one is for industrial use and which one is for the ordinary consumer, will it be sufficient to use the term industrial to give it some distinction on which product the consumer would want to use? Or will all of these distinctions in name prove to be pointless since the general RFID term usually applies to both categories? What type of knowledge would be actually useful for the consumers in the end?
