Defragmenter Tips On Windows Platform

Hard drive is one important part of computer component

. It is used to store operating system files, configuration files, and data. There is one procedure to keep hard drive performance, it called "defragmenter". Hard drive defragmentation means re-arranging the files and reconstructing the "cabinets," so each file is stored in one location. This will speed up hard drive processes, since the files are accessed in a more efficient manner.

To defragment a hard drive, one must begin by locating the disk defragmenter software. On personal computers with Windows 7, use the following steps to find the disk defragmenter: 1.Click the "Start" Menu 2.Select "Control Panel" 3.Look under "Administrative Tools" 4.Select "Defragment Your Hard Drive"

In older versions of Windows, defragmentation software can also be found by: 1.Open Windows Explorer 2.Select the Drive (drive C:, D:, etc). 3.Right click, select "Properties" 4.Select tab "Tools" 5.Click button "Defragment Now"Once the computer's defragmenter is open, ensure that the hard drive (also known as the "C" drive; the Windows 7 default name is "OS (C;)") is highlighted in the menu. In most cases, the hard drive will be highlighted by default.Select "Analyze Disk" to see the portion of fragmentation on the hard disk or skip this step and click "Defragment Disk" to begin the automated process. Many third party software programs have an additional step that involves re-analysis of the hard disk following "defragging."Notably, external hard drives and portable storage devices like USB flash drives can also benefit from defragmentation. The defrag process is nearly identical; instead of highlighting the C drive, the external hard drive/thumb drive/etc. will need to be selected instead.Regularly defragmenting hard drive files will lead to optimized, faster PC performance, without the expense of special software or downloads. But a word of warning: always back-up data prior to defragmenting.by: Friedrich Sawyer
