Dell Computers is best known for workstations and printers has been in newterritorylately. Dell's attempts to get into the smartphone business has been off to an incredibly bumpy start. The Aero, a Android smartphone, launched earlier this year with subpar reviews. Personally, I really liked the Aero but found it just didn't meet up to the demands of a growing smartphone public. The streak (the steak) was a great success but not a huge seller. Now, the Windows Phone 7-based Venue Pro is plagued with manufacturing and shipping problems. Within the past week news rose about internal issues with getting the new phone out.Officiallythis week, Dell has delayed the shipment of US online orders due to manufacturing issues.
Just as it seemed the darkest days are upon Dell, the clouds seem to be moving away in a global way. Dell has launched an Android version of the Dell Venue Pro smartphone to Korea (Information from www.dellvenue.com). Korean mobile operator KT has announced an Android 2.2 Dell Venue is now available. From the specifications listed on the mobile operators website it will feature a 4.1 inch AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass, but without the slide out QWERTY keyboard. It looks like the Android2.2 powered Dell Venue will retail for 700,000 won in Korea, which is about $608 US. There are still no details on when we will see the Dell Venue Android smartphone in Europe. Rumors have started that the Venue Pro should start to popup overseas sometime in January.
