When I think of Hyundai, I dont really connect it to Mercedes

. I mean a European car maker equated for decades with luxury and high quality compared to an Asian car maker thats a newbie by comparison and is certainly more affordable the any Mercedes-Benz Ive ever seen.

So whats the connection? Well, both have cars named as Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2010 Hyundai Genesis sedan is ranked with the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class for Top Safety Pick for large cars. I guess that means Hyundai has made its mark. Delray Beach used Hyundai dealers are not at all surprised by this honor.

When I consider that I had never heard of Hyundai until about 1988 and had not even seen them sold in my area of the Midwest for some time after that, it seems Hyundai has leveled the playing field in the United States. No small task when you consider that most other foreign makers have been established here for several decades. Customers of Delray Beach used Hyundai certainly seem at home with driving choices.

Hyundai models have been moving up in the ranks when it comes to safety. The 2011 Sonata was named in the IIHS midsize category and Kia, Hyundais sister company, had picks for the Forte and Soul in the small car category. Delray Beach Hyundai Sonata customers should be thrilled that they know how to pick a winner.

The Hyundai Genesis sedan received good mark (the highest rating) in all categories. This is a major accomplishment for an up-and-coming maker like Hyundai. I love the fact that they have come into an established market and not only garnered a percentage of the market, developing a loyal customer base, but have now challenged the auto establishment for a place at the top.

Delray Beach Hyundai Sonata buyers can now have the assurance of comparing more than favorably with the top vehicles from U.S., Asian and European auto makers. No small feat for sure. To see the Hyundai Genesis beating out the Mercedes E-Class is not something I would have bet money on had you told me 20 years ago,Heres this new car company and theyre going to compete with a top European brand before you know it.

Well, now they have and Im sure somewhere in the Hyundai corporate offices there are some designers or vice presidents thumbing their noses and saying Na, na, na, na, na! Or at the very least, I told you so!

Im curious to see what categories Hyundai and Kia show up in next year. I wouldnt be surprised if they add a couple of new Top Picks to their accolades.
