Sinngers Goodrem and Brian McFadden have split.The pair, who have been engaged since 2007, announced the end of their seven-year relationship today.
"Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden regretfully announce that they are no longer engaged, and after much consideration, have mutually decided to end their relationship," their joint statement read."This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart. They leave the partnership with respect for one and other, wishing each other success and happiness for the future.
"Delta and Brian appreciate there will be interest regarding this announcement but request that their time together is respected and they are given privacy during this time of transition."Goodrem and McFadden have spent the last year living in different parts of the world after selling the house they shared in Sydney.Goodrem, 26, bought a house in LA and has been writing and recording her fourth album.
McFadden, 30, has been based in Sydney with friends, concentrating on TV work and his musical career in Australia.He has spent the past month filming the next series of Australia's Got Talent, where he appears as a judge alongside friend Kyle Sandilands.As recently as February, McFadden insisted the pair were still planning their long-delayed wedding."Of course we will get married, we just haven't set a day yet," McFadden said. "We're trying to organise our schedules so we can be in the same place at the same time.
"But we're not going to just rock up to a registry to get married, Delta is a princess, she deserves a proper wedding."The pair endured a long-distance relationship at times to work on their careers, often taking them to opposite sides of the world."It's hard to spend so much time apart, but we've both got dreams and goals and we respect we're individuals,'' Goodrem said in 2008.
Their relationship and career were intertwined from the start, on and off stage.The pair met in 2004 when McFadden recruited Goodrem as a duet partner for his song Almost Here, written about the demise of his marriage to British C-grade celebrity Kerry Katona, the mother of his two children.
Goodrem was dating Mark Philippoussis at the time. She met the tennis player while she was recovering from cancer treatment.Despite being labelled a homewrecker, Goodrem clarified both parties were single when they started dating.
Their relationship survived McFadden being crucified by the British press, however his friendship with the divisive Sandilands and a string of headlines had started similar treatment in Australia.McFadden has had a handful of wars on Twitter and most recently made headlines after an incident at Melbourne's Rockpool restaurant and allegedly smoking with Sandilands on a V Australia flight from LA the pair were questioned by Federal Police when they landed in Sydney.He voluntarily asked radio stations to pull his most recent single, Drunk at the Bar, after the lyrics were seen by some as promoting date rape a claim he vehemently denied. He said it was written about Goodrem getting "giggly" after half a glass of champagne.
"I feel sick that my single is getting so much attention for the wrong reason," he Tweeted. "I love making music but I do not want this song played on radio or being sold to profit myself if people think it's about date rape. It's not about date rape. I'm gonna give all my profits from the song to victims of rape."The couple wrote several hits together Goodrem's In This Life, Together We Are One and Believe Again among them.Any way,what a pity!
