Demand For Herbalife Products Expected To Increase With Focus On Obesity

The demand for weight loss products, particularly those provided by network marketing

giant Herbalife, is expected to increase in the next few years as the focus on curbing the obesity trend in the United States escalates.

Herbalife, with more than two million distributors in nearly every country in the world, is a leader in the diet supplement market and is positioned very favorably as more people begin to fight their own personal battle of the bulge. Herbalife was founded in 1980 by Mark Hughes, and quickly grew into one of the largest network marketing companies in the world. They found success through offering a line of natural weight loss supplements that have been helping customers lose weight for three decades.

While it may seem as if having two million distributors worldwide would saturate the market and ruin the business model for the individual owners, in fact it hasn't come close to reaching that point. That's because it is estimated that there are 1.6 billion overweight people in the world-a number that is expected to increase as countries become more modernized and wealthy.

By far, Herbalife's best selling product is its weight management line, which accounts for about two-thirds of all sales. However, Herbalife has broadened its focus to include general nutrition supplements, energy and fitness products, and a line of skin care products. These segments are also expected to increase given the general focus on anti-aging and fitness.

Weight loss management is a huge industry in the United States, and also around the world. The industry is responsible for generating about $60 billion in the U.S., which is the industry's largest market. With a market this huge, there is plenty of competition. But analysts believe that there is enough need for diet supplements to keep existing companies in the black for some time.
