The way to happiness is not reserved just for the few gurus of this world who have retreated from life and meditate on a mountaintop,to reach bliss. Rather, everyone deserves to be happy and there are means to achieve it, without having to abandon life as you know it, to trek to the Himalayas.If you search for something, you will surely find it; but how many of us actively search for what we want in life? How many of us just put up with "second best" or with whatever comes along next, because we have not sat down to think what we want to achieve and how we intend to get it?The way to happiness is to actively go after it and not to stop until you are achieving it constantly. These 5 simple suggestions will help you on your way.1. Be Clear On Your Goal.First we have to decide what we want. Be very clear that you actually want happiness to show up in your life and mean it. It is going to involve some conscious effort on your part to achieve this goal; are you willing to pay the price?Many of us say we want something and then cannot be bothered to go after it; the result is that, we choose to live in misery!2. Self-awareness and Attention.There is always a price to pay for anything. You will need to pay with self-awareness and attention to your emotions and thoughts. Whatever you focus on for any length of time, you begin to attract more of in your life.So, the way to happiness is to keep your attention on noticing how happy you are. Find evidence constantly to support how happy you are. Anytime your mind gives you a negative thought or you begin to feel less than happy for whatever reason, it is time to bring your awareness back and refocus.3. Set your intent.Intend to be happy and do not stop until you get there. No matter what happens in your day, you can be happy if you choose to be because you choose what you put your focus on.When you first wake up in the morning, set your intent to look for things that are joyful in your day. Then, make sure you follow through. If something upsetting happens, quickly take your mind off it and put it on something joyful and keep it there.4. What Makes Your Heart Sing?Create a list of things that make you happy and add to it each time you remember something else. They can be simple things such as painting or making yourself a bowl of soup or buying your favourite magazine.Then, make sure you do one thing from your list each day. Constantly fill your life with things that bring you joy, you deserve it.5. Be Grateful.Be grateful that you have a home that shelters you from the elements, a career that you enjoy, people who love you, food to eat and companionship. Notice everything you have around you that you love. Remind yourself often of these things.The way to happiness is simple,but not easy. It is easy to fall into negativity and despair and to forget how blessed we all are.
