Dermal Fillers: Know All About Them
All across the world, many people continue to search for their own little fountain of youth
. Though many procedures have come to light in the past few decades, many tend to be rather expensive, some of which require surgery and a bit of recovery time. For those looking for a quick, and less expensive fix for facial lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers like Botox, restylane and alike just may be the answer you've been looking for.
Peaking its head into the medical community in 1990 for treatment of eye muscle spasms, the drug showed its potential as a cosmetic treatment almost immediately. Many of the patients treated for the spasms began noticing their wrinkle softening. Ten years later, dermal fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States.
Injectables effectively able iron out wrinkles by paralyzing muscles in the face through multiple injections. Lines caused by facial movements such as frowning, squinting, and yes... even smiling can easily be treated with little to no recovery time and limited risk of side effects.
Though effective, it is important to note that the treatment is not permanent. Most applications tend to last between 3- 4 months requiring additional injections to keep wrinkles at bay. However, recent studies have shown that repeated applications may last progressively longer as facial muscles will atrophy when not in use for long periods of time.
While the effects may only be temporary, the treatment has its share of benefits. Most appointments last anywhere from 5 minutes to a half hour depending on how many areas are being treated. The process is quick and relatively pain free.
In order to minimize the risk of complications, it is suggested that patients use the facial muscles after being treated so the substance is attracted to the right areas.
Risks are rather rare, but can include numbness, swelling, bruising, headache, and most commonly, a droopy eyelid.
If you are considering using dermal fillers as a method, be sure to shop around. These days there are plenty of practices which use the injections to treat their patients. Some may be better than others. You may want to ask around to friends and family in hopes of finding a good recommendation.
Set up a consultation and see what the physician believes a worthwhile treatment might be. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The more informed you are, the higher better your chances of coming away with the results you were seeking.
