Dermal fillers – Do you Know Who is Injecting You?

Dermal fillers Do you Know Who is Injecting You

?

As a Registered nurse with over 20 years' experience and more than 9 years practicing in the field of medical aesthetics, I am concerned about the relative ease it is to start up a practice, either in a clinic or a beauty salon, with a couple of half day training sessions. I have had nurses ring me to ask if a half day botox training course would be enough to start treating clients? Of course Not!

I have had nurses shadow me in my practice to gain hands on knowledge to see if they could hack it as an aesthetic practitioner, and again I saw the fear and uncertainty they showed when faced with the reality of the treatments and what is involved. - "The dermal filler market has grown to an estimated 18 million market in the UK and Ireland" Sue Wales of Lifestyle Aesthetics. It seems to me that some practitioners think they can inject dermal fillers or botox as an extra source of income to their regular job. This is certainly a big mistake and should not be tolerated.

So the next step and perhaps one of the most important, is to choose a suitable practitioner to administer the injectables. This can be confusing if you don't know what you should be looking for so begin with a little research first. Choosing the wrong practitioner not only reflects badly on them, but also on you and your face. Treatments can be administered by a doctor, dentist or nurse who has been trained in the procedure and who holds a training certificate and insurance.

Finding any doctor, dentist or nurse isn't enough; they must be fully trained in the treatments you want and they should be able to prove this through certification. Ask them to show you, they should be happy to do so. You should also carry out basic checks on the identity of the practitioner and their history as a medical professional. If anything suspicious arises from your checks, ask yourself if it is really worth risking.

I just can't imagine letting an unqualified person injecting dermal fillers into my face, can you?
