Designer Jewellery Sales On The Up
Sales of designer jewellery have improved on last year's figures due to greater consumer confidence.
A number of independent jewellers have claimed that customers feel more positive about the economy and are willing to spend money on luxuries such as designer jewellery and children's jewellery, reports Professional Jeweller.
Jewellery designer Dinny Hall told the magazine that she believes customers are more confident as increased sales of silver and gold designer jewellery have seen her business enjoy larger profits compared to the same time last year.
This opinion was supported by West Sussex jeweller Wakefields who said that their engagement range of jewellery was increasingly popular this year.
Wakefields owner Dominic Wakefield told the publication that he expected the growth in designer jewellery sales to continue into the festive period.
"We envisage a busy trading period in the run up to Christmas and look forward to a bumper Christmas," he said.
Dower and Hall also believe that Christmas time will be a busy period as shoppers will be looking to buy designer jewellery and children's jewellery for their friends and family.
Co-owner Diane Hall told the publication: "We are picking up quite a bit of new business which has been very exciting. Confidence is growing and people are back to moving forward which is great news."
Jewellery fans will be aiming to emulate their idols as some of the most famous faces from the worlds of modelling and tennis have been signed up to front the latest designer ranges.
Tiffany & Co. announced that Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova would sport earrings from the jeweller's new collection of yellow diamonds during the US Open tournament.
"Wearing Tiffany diamonds on or off the court is always a special experience. The addition of coloured diamonds makes the jewellery even more extraordinary," said Ms Sharapova.
London supermodel Kate Moss is being used by New York jeweller David Yurman to promote his latest collection.
Photographer Peter Lindberg shot Moss wearing nothing but the designer jewellery on the Caribbean island beaches of St Barts.
Australian model Nicole Trunfio has also appeared wearing just jewellery to advertise her new range, which she describes as "Earth Mother."
"I have travelled to many countries far and wide and explored the different dynamics of how women express themselves in their own cultures and today's world. The inspiration for me to create this line of jewellery was to accentuate the feminine spirit," she said.
Ms Trunfio won the Australian version of the television series Search for a Supermodel.
