Desk Fans Will Ensure No One Loses Their Cool As The Temperature Rises On The Shop Floor

Working on a large, open-plan floor of an office or factory means that every member

of the workforce is exposed to the same level of noise, dirt and heat. That means that, if the temperature begins to rise and cooling systems are either inadequate or even worse non-existent, workers productivity is likely to suffer.

And when its imperative that a production line or dispatch department keeps rolling at a constant speed, it is vital that staff can keep their concentration, no matter how far the mercury rises. So thats the time to consider supplying desk fans or pedestal fans in order to ensure that not only productivity, but morale and, ultimately, workers physical health, dont suffer.

The law in the UK no longer specifies a minimum or maximum temperature at which work premises must be kept, but the Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare regulations of 1992 stipulates that all heaters must be working correctly, and not produce harmful fumes.

The main guidelines for a maximum safe working temperature are laid down by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which recommends that the highest comfortable working temperature is 24 degrees centigrade (75 degrees Fahrenheit). Beyond this, it says, workers can begin showing symptoms such as dehydration and heat stress. If they are exposed to these temperatures for a prolonged period, this may result in them suffering heatstroke.

Regulations state that the means of maintaining a comfortable working temperature should be negotiated between management and staff. The type and siting of any desk fans or free-standing fans provided to help alleviate problems caused by the heat should also be a matter for negotiation.

Ultimately, though, workers have no legal right to stop work or leave their workplace through concerns over extreme hot or cold conditions, except where there is a serious and imminent risk of danger. But it is managements responsibility to provide solutions which staff request.

These may well include desk fans, pedestal fans or free-standing fans. These are available in a range of sizes measured by the diameter of the fan so that models are available to suit all sizes of work space. As well as desk or free-standing pedestal models, some can be adapted to attach to a wall, so that the cool air comes from the direction where it can be most effective. There is no reason for workers to suffer because the temperature starts to rise the right choice of desk fans or free-standing fans can ensure that they can stay happy, healthy and productive.
