Approved by the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the Nanfang Manganese Mining Group Corporation was established in Changsha, Hunan Province, which indicates that the Chinese manganese mining began to operate based on group corporations. Currently there are 28 manganese ore mines in addition to hundreds of small local mines and township collective-owned and self-employed mining sites. The total production scale is 3.42 million tons. The production capacity of the mines in southern China"s Guangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guangdong and Fujian amounts to 87.7% of China"s total production capacity (Hunan and Guangxi amount to 54.2%).
