Deterring Pest Birds With Bird Spikes
Birds are wonderful creatures and they can fly where they want
. But sometimes that freedom is too much for the human planet and the birds go places where they should not go. At that time the birds have become pest birds and nobody wants a pest bird. When birds are obviously becoming pests and many problems regarding their existence occur, it is clear that we need to properly solve the problems to prevent further damages in the future. Solving problems with pest birds such as pigeons, woodpeckers, starlings and crows which are very annoying and irritating all the time when they come in very large numbers should be prioritized by all homeowners and building owners. Each year building owners and homeowners spend countless hours and money cleaning up after and repairing the damage caused by pest birds. Not only are these problems unsightly; pest birds and their feces can spread 60 plus transmittable diseases. Safety, sanitation and health hazards caused by bird droppings can pose serious liability risks, and left untreated, can lead to accidents and lawsuits. Fortunately, there are some pretty smart people who have combined science and bird psychology to solve the pest bird problem. And the bird control solutions they have come up with are not only effective but humane and surprisingly affordable.
One bird repellent that has proven itself to be effective in many applications is the Bird Spike. Bird spikes, also known as needle spikes or anti-roosting spikes are devices consisting of long, needle-like spikes used to control pest birds. The needles or spikes are usually all plastic or a plastic base with stainless steel spikes. Bird Spikes are recommended by architects, contractors and government agencies; these spiked strips have proven highly effective in deterring birds from peaking on roofs, window ledges, I-beams parapet walls, awnings, canopies, signs and gutters. It is important to note that these bird spikes do not harm the birds at all; The bird spikes are not sharp, but create an unsuitable landing area for the birds so they move on to a more hospitable site. Yes, they look like they would impale any bird coming near them, but they are perfectly harmless. Birds take one look at these threatening looking spikes and realize very quickly that landing on or near them are impossible. You can get them with rigid U.V.-resistant unbreakable polycarbonate spikes or high strength, durable stainless steel spikes. They typically come in 3, 5 and 8 inch widths and their non-reflective metal finish makes them practically invisible when installed. One of the key benefits of using plastic bird spikes is that, unlike steel bird spikes, they are non-conductive, which means they can safely be used near power lines, electrical switches, phone lines, transmission towers, junction boxes, electrical signs and other areas where high frequency transmissions are being beamed into the air. Plastic bird spikes are easy to install and require virtually no maintenance. The spikes can be used as soon as you take them out of their packing container. Installation is often as easy as applying adhesive or screwing them down. They are also very economical and requiring little to no maintenance once installed. Spikes made of rigid plastic and high-grade stainless steel can last over 10-years installed on a building and retain their effectiveness. Most are manufactured with U.V. protectors in the plastic so that sun and weather have little effect on the material.
