It is a very important consideration when an employer is making a hiring decision. In the end, he or she knows that the tone of voice their sales people use will determine the success of the company.
If your company is struggling to make sales, this may be one of the areas you want to turn your full attention to. With the rise of technology, your tone of voice has become even more critical in the business world rather than less critical.
With less face to face contact, the only thing people have to judge you on is what you say and how you say it. Everything else can be done online.
You may feel like this is a handicap that you can do nothing about. However, all voices can be trained to sound confident, professional, and friendly.
As your spend time on the phone, you will probably be able to speak to a lot of people who have refined their voices. Listen to what they do with their voices and try to imitate them.
As with many other things, it will take practice to sound exactly how you would like to sound. However, the practice is worth it because it could make the difference between the success and failure of your business.
There are five main components of how you use your voice. All five of these things must be considered when you are striving to develop the perfect sales person voice.
The first thing that must be considered is of course your tone. If you are feeling arrogant, unfriendly, or defensive, you should take a minute to calm yourself down before you make a phone call or you will sound that way.
Try to create a tone that always sounds confident, strong, full of assurance, and so forth. With practice, you should be able to draw on this tone anytime you need to, no matter how you feel yourself.
It will take quite a while before your tone will reach the point where you can rely on it for anything. When you reach a point that you feel is pretty good, ask a coworker what he or she thinks you could still improve on.
The second thing you will need to consider is your voice inflection. When you are talking, there will be some things that you say that are more important than others.
The things that are more important than others will need to be emphasize while other things will need to be smoothed over. How you do this is through using your voice inflection.
Inflection is when you say something slightly louder or quieter, faster or slower to put an emphasis on it. The way you say something can completely change what you are actually saying, even if the words are the same.
Inflection will also take a lot of practice to get right. It is a very good idea to rehearse what you are going to say in a phone call before you actually make the call.
Even if you feel stupid, you are the one who is really going to be successful in the end because of your willingness to put in some hard work. Eventually you will get to a point where you can make a quality phone call without practice.
The third thing you will need to turn your attention to is what you sound like. If you sound like a recorded message, most people will simply hang up.
If you sound whiny, other people will not believe what you are saying because the whine will make it sound like you do not believe in what you are saying. Try to convey a smile and confidence through the sound of your voice.
You may want to record yourself and listen to the recording so you can hear what you really sound like. The recording could leave you pleasantly surprised or disappointed.
The last thing you should be aware of is the amount of energy that you put into your voice. If your voice sounds tired, it is not going to energize people and convince them to purchase your product.
The more energetic you are, the more people will want to get involved. As you practice these five things, you will be able to develop a professional sales voice.
