Developing and Managing Your Resonance While Practicing How to Sing

Perceiving resonance in singing is essential since it helps to develop your vocal range. Many singers do not realize what that is, but when you discover it you will know that it is one of the most prominent ingredient of singing.

Resonance is one property of sound. Sound is a wave that travels throughout the air. Resonance is related to frequencies. When sound goes through numerous mediums such as walls, roofs, glass, wood, metal, water, etc. it amplifies certain frequencies; the high or low frequencies may get more distinct.

When you sing, noise which you generate goes throughout all of your body. Sound does not resound completely equal in each area of the body. To illustrate, in your head it would seem different than in your thorax.

The perfect thing is to discover the most fitting resonating

areaqs of your body and use them when you sing to produce the high and low notes efficiently.

Practicing is the most desirable way to develop your vocal range, specifically when you are first practicing how to sing.

Let's conduct a short exercise to learn about resonance.

Close your mouth and start to vocalize the letter "M" like "mmmm" for various seconds.

A) Attempt to cause it to sound solely in your throat.

B) Let's repeat the equivalent sound, yet now make the sound between your nostrils and your mouth.

C) This time we will make the same sound yet now try to make it sound only in the center of your head.

You will begin to observe that when you generate the noise between your nose and your mouth, the higher frequencies sound the most excellent. The higher sounds sound second best in the middle of your head. You will notice that the higher frequencies don't sound as vivid when you make them from your throat.

If you still can't seem to observe the difference in the features of the high sounds, keep practicing until you are able to identify where to detect the best sounding high notes.

To broaden your learning, try making the sound in different keys. You may also use the sound "maaa" at the same time trying to achieve higher notes each time in your vocal register. Observe how each noise resonates and in what way or manner it sounds when you practice in the different areas and forms that we've mentioned.

We recommend using the area that is above your palate, between your mouth and nose, if you desire to augment your vocal range, adding more high notes. Opening your mouth more and tensing up your facial muscles can help you hit still higher notes.

Once you've practiced and acquire a good knowledge on resonance, you will be able to more appropriately guide where to transmit the high and low notes whilst you're singing.
