Development Of Book Printing In China
The arrival of the internet and the resultant globalization has melted the boundaries between countries and continents
. Nowadays, if you want to get any work done, you do not have to consider whether the service provider is located near enough. All you have to do is choose the company or the individual who can do the job best. In fact, wood block printing technology had started in China in as early as the 7th century, earlier than it had started in the west. A Buddhist holy book, which was apparently printed in the year 868 AD in China, is believed to be the oldest printed book that has survived. The movable type printing was introduced in China in 1040, invented by an alchemist named Pi Sheng. But later, book printing China had lost this predominant position as printing technology evolved faster in western countries.
The delay in the development of technically advanced book printing in China was the result of the difficulty in computer processing Chinese characters. Whereas the entire writing in English language can be managed by 26 alphabets plus mathematical symbols and punctuation marks, Chinese language has 6700 characters that are commonly used plus another 40000 that find limited use. However, most of these problems have been overcome now and book printing China is a highly sophisticated discipline.
Like much of the country's other businesses, book printing China has also started aiming at an increased global market share after the country became a member of the WTO or the World Trade Organization in 2001. Accession to the WTO has necessitated certain changes in the rules on intellectual property rights, environmental protection, and protectionism, from what has been practiced in the country till then, and this has helped the growth of book printing in China.
Now that China has perfected laser printing technology, it has once again recaptured its lead position in printing, and is offering its services in the global market. Once the technology has been perfected, China has been able to compete well in the international market because they are able to offer their services cheap. Labor is much cheaper in China compared to western countries, and as such, book printing in China can be done more cheaply than in most other countries of the world.
The import tariffs of paper products have also decreased after China's entry into the WTO and this has further reduced the cost of printing, thereby helping them to perform well in the domestic market as well as the international market. Especially in cases where bulk orders are taken, book printing China companies are able to do the work at highly competitive rates.
Earlier, China had language problems in interacting with other countries because international languages were not in popular use in the country. This problem has also been now solved because many in the younger generation who are handling printing jobs are multilingual. Besides, companies that handle book printing in China liaise with companies located in other countries which do the job of taking orders from the clients and shipping the products, and make sure that the clients get exactly what they need.
