Diabetes And Being Beautiful
Many associate diabetes with obese and unhealthy individuals stuffing their faces with fatty food
. Unfortunately, this stereotype is untrue because there are no outward manifestations of diabetes. Thus, there are many beautiful and sexy people who suffer from this condition. And as everyone knows, being beautiful includes some form of maintenance and when with diabetes, some care need to be done for the following beauty regimens:
Waxing. Many beauty salons do not allow waxing as a hair removal treatment for individuals with diabetes. This is because the hot wax may cause skin breakage especially in areas where diabetic neuropathy has set in. Neuropathy is the condition where the area does not have any functioning nerve endings to register pain or other discomfort. When the wax is too hot, the skin may become scalded and with the slow healing of cells in diabetics, this may just be long-term problem for the individual diabetic. Thus when waxing, it must be done very carefully to prevent any further issues for the diabetic.
Sauna Treatments. Many beauty salons or health clubs would refuse use of their facilities for diabetics. Many of these proprietors have the notion that heat and steam can cause problems for the diabetic. They are partially correct as diabetes results in increased urination because of the body's autonomic response of dumping excess blood glucose produced by the liver through the kidneys. One way to prevent dehydration is ingesting fluids but checking one's blood glucose levels to prevent hypoglycemia can make this medical condition not a concern. Keeping hydrated with a sugar rich drink can keep a diabetic safe in a sauna.
Pedicures. One of the major issues with diabetes is healing wounds. Because of the lack of insulin, the cells of the body is unable to repair itself using the available blood glucose. Many of the injuries in beauty salons come from manicures and/or pedicures. The sharp instruments can cause deep injuries in the nail regions and when diabetic neuropathy has set in, the individual would not feel the pain of a prick or deep cut in the ends of the nails or toes. When there is no pain registry, many diabetics do not mind the wound and with the slow healing process, the wound becomes infected resulting in further issues such as necrosis or even amputation.
Many beauty salons would want to avoid legal issues when they have diabetic customers seeking beauty treatments. One way to keep your beauty regimen intact is through advising your beauty salon of your condition and preparing some way to work around the condition. These include keeping hot wax temperatures manageable for wax treatments, being hydrated when undergoing sauna treatment and being totally observant when it comes to pedicures or manicures. When all this is taken cared of, diabetics can keep their beauty regimens on schedule to make their external beauty radiate for all to see.
