Diabetes And Lifestyle Changes You Should Make
More and more people are affected by diabetes every year
. This is a serious issue affecting the entire world. An underlying cause is that most people do not realize the exact causes and how to protect themselves. Also, they are very uninformed of the disease in general and that there are actually two separate forms. Each one of these forms act as two different diseases and therefore people should be informed as to the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Both types of diabetes revolve around levels of insulin. This is most likely the main reason that they are not just classified as two completely different diseases all together. Levels of insulin are important when controlling the amount of blood sugar present in the blood stream. If there is ever too much or too little present the body will not react in a good way.
If there is not enough insulin present in order to maintain a healthy level the patient is considered to have type 1 diabetes. This unhealthy level of lack of insulin will result in several symptoms that will not be pleasant for the patient. In order to prevent these symptoms from occurring you will need to frequently check the amount of insulin present in your blood stream throughout the day.
People who suffer from type 1 diabetes will often notice: extreme thirstiness, tingling in their fee, fatigue, and hunger. However, these are just the initial symptoms and some patients may not suffer form any symptoms at all. This is particularly troublesome actually because without any symptoms the patient may go undiagnosed for a significant period of time. If the levels of insulin are ever too high the patient may begin to notice a whole separate set of symptoms.
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes there are several life changes you will have to consider. Your doctor will go over these changes with you in order to set up a lifelong goal that you will realistically be able to maintain. This is an important aspect to remember because this will be something that you will have to keep up for the rest of your life; it is not just a quick fix situation.
Unlike type 1 diabetes, type 2 is relatively preventable. While it is not entirely preventable there are more steps that you can take in order to lower your chances. This is because type 2 is most often associated with obesity because it is concerned with levels of insulin that are too high.
Some of the symptoms associated with type 2 are seen in: slow healing of wounds, increased appetite, and extreme fatigue. The best way in which to help prevent type 2 diabetes is to have proper diet and to participate in proper levels of exercise. Obesity is the number one cause of type 2 diabetes.
The best way in which to monitor your own health is to know what is healthy for you to begin with. You will want to have a starting point so that you can notice any changes that may be unusual. These changes should be immediately reported to your primary care physician. If you do have diabetes he will be able to direct you to have lifestyle changes you will need to make.
