Insulin a hormone secreted by pancreas responsible for secretion of insulin in the body. Pancreas consists of four types of cells which are collectively known as Islet of Langerhans. Among which beta cells are responsible for secretion of insulin. The main function of insulin is to control or regulate the blood sugar level in the body. Insulin in the body act as key and passes glucose into blood.
In diabetes there is too much of glucose in the blood. This glucose content in the blood is harmful and known as glucose toxicity.

Different Types of diabetes:
Diabetes is mainly divided in two types. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 is also known as Juvenile diabetes or Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Type 2 is also known as Adult onset diabetes or Non insulin dependent diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is due to stop in production of insulin which is due to autoimmune system of the body which destroys the beta cells of the pancreas. The autoimmune system of the body consists of antibodies.
Type 2 diabetes is mainly due to low production of insulin or the cells i.e. receptors of the cells not reacting to the insulin produced.
Diabetes in women:
Diabetes in women during pregnancy is known as Gestational diabetes. This diabetes may only last for about a short interval of time i.e. up to delivery if proper care is taken by the women during pregnancy. Women are at a risk of having large babies.
