Diamond rings stolen in raid

Diamonds are a highly valuable commodity and, as such, they often prove a lure for criminals intent on stealing them.

One shop to be targeted in this way recently was Chris Shan jewellers, which is based on Ainsworth Street in Blackburn.

In total, around 20,000 of stock was taken from the outlet, potentially including diamond engagement rings.

According to manager of the shop Ms Kang, the "smartly dressed" men entered the shop around noon pretending to be potential customers.

They then grabbed diamond rings worth 16,500 and 3,000 from inside the shop.

One of the products was a solitaire diamond ring.

Ms Kang added: "They looked like a father and son, dressed in smart suits with ties and looking professional. We were taken off guard.

"They looked at the cheaper stuff first and pretended to catch a glance of an expensive pendant."

She went on to describe how the incident is a "terrible loss" to the business, pointing out the firm has recently opened another shop and is in the process of trying to establish itself.

The manager added: "It is not the member of staff's fault, she's so vigilant. It could have happened to anyone."

Police are investigating the case and any witnesses are invited to go forward.

Of course, this was not the only recent theft of such valuable items.

In September, thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from an antiques shop in Petersfield, the Portsmouth News reports.

The individuals managed to get away with a number of jewels, including diamonds, amethysts and sapphires.

They achieved the theft by distracting staff at the shop with questions about the antiques on sale.

While two of the gang members did this, a third broke into a storage cabinet at the front of the store with a skeleton key and took the items out.
