Did You Ever Wonder Why Your Chiropractor Looks At Your Feet?

In Chiropractic you think about spines

In Chiropractic you think about spines. But it all starts down at the feet!

Most people have one leg shorter than the other. You may have this condition, and not even know about it.

It"s not something you will notice until it"s pointed out to you. Yet it really affects your health.

Your muscles get out of alignment, get strained and weakened and your organs suffer too. Pain is just one of the last steps of a long process of deterioration.

So what is Short Leg? How does it come about? And most importantly, what can you do about it?

There are in fact two types of "Short Leg." Both are handled differently.

True Short Leg

One type is called the "True Short Leg." This is the type you have been born with or which you may have developed from due to a motor vehicle accident or sports injury. In this case, the bones in the legs are actually a different length. There"s nothing that can be done to change that "" only the effects from it can be lessened. The problem for your chiropractor is to determine if this is causing an imbalance or whether your body has already adjusted itself nicely to this condition.

One solution for this is called the heel lift, which is a piece of leather or rubber placed under the heel in your shoe to help reduce the strain on your hips and body. This can really help stabilise your pelvis and improve your general health.

Functional Short Leg

The more common type of short leg is called "Functional Short Leg."

Functional Short Leg occurs due to your pelvis rolling back on one side. This pulls up on the leg, making it appear shorter. This can come from an injury to your spine, neck or hip which then makes it make up for the weakened area. It can happen quite slowly over years, and you will probably be unaware of it until you get into pain. By this point it has already gone on for a long time!

After some 30 years of clinical practice, and through observing normal people at spinal screenings, sports events and the like, I have never discovered a person without a short leg. This is quite an astonishing thing. You may not get symptoms with it in the short term, but it has a bad effect.

How common are the types of Short Leg?

About 80% of people have a pelvic-based short leg. 15% are made up of the upper neck variety leaving about 2% with the true short leg type. There are some, also, who are combination types "" which make up the other 3%.

What Can You Do About It?

By now you will have gotten the idea that your spine and your health are related.

As you can see, even just your neck being out of alignment can throw out your entire body! The reason for this is that the nerves get "pinched" and sometimes you can barely tell. This makes a chain reaction in your body.

Your visit to a chiropractor will involve examination for a short leg.

Pelvic imbalance and upper neck problems are things you may never know about. Seeing a chiropractor makes a lot of sense. It isn"t just about headaches and back pain.

Chiropractic adjustments will help you.

Chiropractic adjustments have a profound effect on your state of wellbeing for now and in the future.
