As the traffic at Facebook approaches truly ridiculous numbers of people, so does the amount of people advertising there. With a billion in ad revenue coming in, it's pretty clear that a lot of businesses are hoping to cash in on all that traffic. You know with that kind of sustained and growing ad revenue coming in, that only means one thing - advertisers are making good money. What follows in the rest of this article is three advertising tips designed for Facebook.

Testing, optimizing, and making copy adjustments is just as important at Facebook as they are elsewhere. If you know all about testing, that's great, but if not then you will need to test each element of your ads. This is called A/B split testing, and you just rotate two ads that are different in only one respect to each other. However, if you're thinking this is just like what is done at other search engines with pay per click, then that would not be accurate. When you see ads in Google, chances are that you're seeing that ad for the first and the last time, unless it's being run by a company like eBay.

You will be targeted a certain segment of Facebook users, your market, and that means they'll see your ad until you take it down. So the effect at Facebook is that your ad has a something similar to a shelf life, and when enough of your market has seen it you will get way fewer clicks. So then the thing for you to do is simply create a stable of ads, for the same campaign, and then rotate them out in a timely manner. If you make totally new ads you'll need to split test and optimize them all over again. We recommend changing it so it's not recognizable as the old ad.

Another possibility with Facebook advertising is their engagement ads, but you will need more of a budget as they run on their homepage. We would only do this if our market was sufficiently large enough to provide a good rationale for the expense. Yes, the potential is immense, but this is really for experienced marketers due to the expense and tremendous volume of traffic. Just as an example, if your server was suddenly hit with millions of visitors, would it hold up? We think not for the average marketer. If you want your advertisments to run faster after you submit them, then you will have to make higher bids - seems FB prefers you to spend more money with them and reward you. It won't take long for you to see this in action once you begin advertising with them.

There seems to be some point that makes a difference, but don't ask us what that point is. But don't worry even if you go for this method, you're always free to change the bid rate once your ad gets approved. We do understand that it is annoying having to wait because you're not paying them what they want, so just follow our suggestion. Of course it's possible to have a successful Facebook advertising campaign, but you need to prepare well for it. In many ways, this is just like writing classified or PPC ads, and it's imperative you do solid market research. If you are a beginning to IM or Facebook advertising and have little experience, then you will do fine as long as you approach this as a serious business activity.
